Georgy Ostretsov, born in 1967 in Moscow, graduated from the Theater and Art College at the Bolshoi Theater in 1984. He is a well-known Moscow artist, designer and author of performances. He works with various techniques: installations, easel painting, sculpture, video, photo and collage. In the 1980s Ostretsov was a member of the famous art community «Kindergarten». From 1988 to 1998 he lived and worked in Paris, collaborating with famous designers such as Jean-Charles Castelbajac and Jean-Paul Gaultier as well as making costumes for the Luc Besson’s film «Taxi». Since 1998 he has lived and worked in Moscow. Participant of the Biennial of Contemporary Art in Istanbul in 1993, in 2009 he became one of the artists representing Russia at the Russian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, and in 2013 was a participant of the 5th Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art. In his studio he works a lot on joint projects with young artists and designers. His works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Charles Saatchi collection, the Arctic and Antarctic Museum (St. Petersburg), Freud’s Museum of Dreams (St. Petersburg) and in numerous corporate and private collections. In his art, he uses the theme of the ratio of personal and public, musing ironically about the imposed canons and stamps of social behavior.
